Doing What It Takes to Preserve Your Driving Privileges
If you've been charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI), reckless driving or any other traffic offense, your driving privileges could be revoked. Particularly for people whose jobs require extensive driving, the loss of their driver's license could very well cost them their livelihood. It is important to consult an attorney who can explain the possible consequences of your charges and plan an aggressive defense strategy.
The law firm of Manske & Manske offers skilled and persistent criminal defense. Our lawyers seek all possible opportunities to help our clients avoid driver's license suspension. Time is of the essence, so contact us today for a free consultation.
Moving Quickly to Protect Your Driver's License
If you have been arrested for DWI, you have only 15 days to request a hearing to contest the suspension of your driver's license. If you do not request a hearing within that timeframe, your license will automatically be suspended.
The driver's license hearing is separate from your criminal DWI case. Our firm handles both criminal charges and administrative driver's license suspension cases.
There are also additional driver's license suspension consequences if you are convicted of a DWI. You could lose your license for up to a year for a first-time misdemeanor DWI conviction and even longer for a second offense or felony.
Once your driving privileges are restored, you may need to use an ignition interlock device, which is designed to prevent you from starting your vehicle if alcohol is detected on your breath as a condition of your bond or probation. Furthermore, you must pay for the installation of the device and the monthly surcharge for its operation.
Understanding Licensing Consequences of All Traffic Charges
Many traffic-related offenses — including the accumulation of points from multiple speeding tickets — can have driver's license consequences. Conviction on any of these charges may result in your driver's license being temporarily revoked.
If your license is suspended, we can help you seek an occupational license that will allow you to drive to and from work, school or to perform basic household duties. This option is not available for those with a commercial driver's license (CDL).
Our attorneys know the law and know the criminal justice system. Contact Manske & Manske to discuss what we can do to help you fight a driver's license suspension.
